We started the PT sessions with Rachel in April for our 18 month old to help her walk independently. From the first session, we had a very positive experience. She listened to all the issues, understood our expectations and set clear goals after each session. The home visits were very helpful to observe and understand our toddler’s play environment. The suggested simple exercises, shoes & changes to play area started showing results in no time. She was very responsive even between sessions and followed up all my queries. Tamlyn has been working with our son for nearly a year now and engaging her has been one of the best decisions we have made. Our son has Dup15Q and autism. He also has difficulties with fine motor, gross motor and coordination skills and faces some challenges with his focus. At the moment, he’s non-speaking for the most part.
What differentiated Tamlyn from the other therapists we tried previously was how targeted her first session with our son was. She spent the entire session just “playing” with him, but it was obvious to us that each activity had a clear purpose – to allow her to assess his abilities and interests and get to know him better. She moved very seamlessly from one activity to the next and we’re pretty sure our son had no idea this was a therapy session, let alone an assessment.
We’ve had Tamlyn as a therapist for 10 months now, and we enjoy sitting in during her sessions as we learn a lot from her. She has a very creative, play-based approach to therapy, and often comes with different ideas each week. She adapts her activities to ensure they remain interesting to our son and once she noticed our son enjoyed “louder” and more “dramatic” activities, she tailored her approach to be more animated and focused on activities that he loved.
Tamlyn is patient but firm. She is always unfazed, even when our son throws the occasional tantrum or is cranky. She gives him space to express himself and his frustrations, before gently guiding him back towards therapy. So far, she’s been the best at handling our son and he loves her to bits. We know this for a fact because he’s turned around and run away from some other therapists we tried, sometimes embarrassingly mid-session. This has never happened with Tamlyn.
